Today we have another mythological creature and a well known one. It’s from Greek mythology and it’s called the Centaur.
The centaur is a very popular mythological creature and has been so for centuries. The creature has been immortalized through different art forms through history such as vase paintings and statues. Today the centaur can be encountered almost everywhere from traditional paintings to modern movies and computer games. They have appeared movies such as Harry Potter where they were portrayed as intelligent beings that live in the forest and in The Chronicles of Narnia they were usually seen as good soldiers and they’ve appeared in many more popular movies and books!
Bonus info: Female centaurs are called “Kantaurides.”
I’m thinking about posting a creature from Norse mythology next Friday, but if you have a request please feel free to write it in the comments! :)
My question is how did they get created... probably was something pretty disgusting involving a horse and a human.
SvarSletI'll look forward to your take on your local stuff.
SvarSletOh good creature!!! I never knew that about the females! Love learning new things! Have a great weekend :)
SvarSletSo they aren't called "Femtaurs?"
SvarSletit was also depicted in Old Spice commercials.
SvarSletMy only problem is they never seem to do justice to them on the big screen. On second thought they did look pretty bad ass in the Narnia movies.
SvarSletWow didn't know female ones have a different name! Learn something new everyday.
SvarSleti always preferred centaurs to minotaurs... really informative post... check out my blog if you get a chance!
SvarSletWhen I played Age of Mythology they had a lot of centaurs :D
SvarSletgreek mythology is awesome
SvarSletI wouldnt wanna mess with one thats for sure.
SvarSletI think I'd like to see your focus of Norse mythology, so no worries. That aside, I was unaware of that fact about Female centaurs. I always though they shared the same name.
SvarSletCentaurs'? Scary thought, half man half horse?
SvarSletTrue, they are in a lot of movies and games
SvarSletWhat do they call the creature created by crossing a donkey and human? I saw the making of one in Tijuana Mexico.
SvarSletI was always saddened how they treated centaurs on the big screen, except until Narnia came along.
SvarSletlike these stoned guys..hh..
SvarSletomg what is that
SvarSletI have always been fascinated by this weird tendency of nearly all ancient cultures to combine separate creatures into one.
SvarSletI appreciate all your comments guys!
