Creeper (Video Game Monster)

Hello guys! It is Wednesday so therefore we will examine a video game monster. I had a request made by Zoe for the Creeper!

I bet most of you have heard of Minecraft, but just in case… Minecraft is a relatively young game that has gained an extreme amount of popularity in a relatively short time. In Minecraft you will as the player try to survive in a world made of pixilated bricks. The trees, the earth and even the animals and enemies are made of bricks! The player will then be able to hunt, attack enemies and most important of all harvest materials to build all sorts of things including homes or even castles. One of the enemies in Minecraft is the Creeper. The creeper wasn’t always a part of the game, but appeared for the first time in the Survival Test version. It has been instantly become a new video game monster classic. The monster’s hissing sound is so iconic and recognizable. It has also has a weird appearance. It is all green and has no arms, but 4 legs instead. I actually read that the creeper was a failed attempt to create a pig for the game!

Great White Shark (Real Monster)

Alright guys, I've been busy today, so I'll leave you with a repost I did long ago!
It’s time for a true monster, a monster from the real world. Meet the great white shark!

The great white shark, also known as simply great white, is a formidable predator. This monster hunts in all major oceans in the world and can reach up to 6 meters in length. The great white can live to be around 30 years of age, but it only matures when it’s 15. A lot of people fear the white shark. To them it’s just a killing machine consisting of a huge mouth. But to some degree they’re right. Sharks in general are so good at what they’re doing that they have remained virtually almost unchanged for millions and millions of years. But the great white doesn’t actually have human meat as its favorite food. In reality it’s more into sea lions, seabirds and fish.

But when that has been said it’s important to note that since 1876 65 people have been killed by great whites and 242 have been attacked but survived. A little bonus info is that Australia is the country in the world with most fatal white shark attacks.

People really started to fear this creature when Steven Spielberg made the movie “JAWS.” That movie literally made people afraid of swimming in the ocean! But if people are so afraid of a puny 6 meter shark, they should be thankful that its bigger brother charcarodon megalodon isn’t around anymore, but that one we’ll save for another Monster Madnezz post!!!

Future Predator (TV series Monster)

Today’s monster should be from a movie, but I’ve decided to fuse monsters from movies and television together into one category. The first monster from television is the Future Predator!

The Future predator is a creature that can be experienced in the British science fiction show Primeval. They are formidable predators weighing half a ton and standing 2 meters tall. Professor Nick Cutter and the other scientists of the ARC (Anomaly research center) believed the future predator to be a future form of bat. Some believed evolution made it adapt to future conditions which resulted it in being bigger and flightless, but a fierce predator. But it seems that this creature isn’t a product of nature at all, but humans created the species in the ARC at some point which could result in the extinction of the human race in the future. The team we follow in the tv series travel to the future and they discover that humanity most likely have been wiped out and it is now the future predators that are on top of the food chain!

Spinosaurus (Extinct Monster)

Good day everyone! Today's monster is of the extinct variant, and if you have any suggestions for future extinct creatures, you’re very welcome to suggest one in the comments. Meet the Spinosaurus!

The spinosaurus is a gigantic meat eating dinosaur. In fact it is the largest meat eating animal to ever have walked the earth. Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus is even bigger than Tyrannosaurus Rex. One could ask why the spinosaurus isn’t as popular as the T-rex and there are a lot of factors that play a role to answer that question. There exist only very few fossil pieces of spinosaurus and the first that were found were destroyed during WW2 when the allied bombed Berlin. Since then more fossil samples have been found and by comparing spinosaurus to its close relatives baryonix and suchumimus we know now a lot more about the animal than earlier. But T-Rex is still the most popular extinct predator in the world, and I guess we can blame Jurassic Park partly for that. In case you haven’t watched the movie… What is wrong with you?

Jurassic Park 3 made a little up for it by letting Spinosaurus be a part of the movie. Unfortunately they did it in a very wrong way, both cinematically and paleontological. In JP3 the Rex bites the spino’s neck, but the spino isn’t damaged at all. It breaks loose and breaks the neck of t-rex with it’s own bite. T-Rex has the most powerful jaws of any dinosaur. Spinosaurus ate fish. Nuff said. *facepalms.* But Spinosaurus is still an awesome dinosaur and to some degree overlooked

The Midgaard Serpent (Mythology)

Hello everyone, happy Friday! Today I’ll talk about a monster from mythology and this one is actually local to me since it’s from the Norse one. Here is the Midgaard Serpent!

The Midgaard Serpent is an enormous serpentine or dragon like monster from Norse mythology. It lies in the ocean and is so enormous that it actually encircles the whole of Midgaard (the world). He is the son of the half Jötunn / half god Loki which means that his siblings are Hel the ruler of the underworld and Fenrir the monstrous wolf, which I’ve already made an article about here on the blog. The Midgaard Serpent was in conflict with Thor the thundergod 2 times. At one point the powerful Thor was asked by the Jötunns to lift a cat, he couldn’t do that and was humiliated. It wasn’t a normal cat though, but the Midgaard serpent transformed by Jötunn magic. The second time Thor and the serpent met, was when Thor was out fishing with Hymir the Jötunn. He was about to kill the serpent with his hammer Mjölnir when Hymir disturbed him. Thor became so mad that he killed Hymir instead!

It is said that Thor and the Midgaard Serpent will meet once again during Ragnarok when they both will fight their final battle. The serpent will return to land and Thor will kill it, only to die himself from the serpent’s poisonous blood.

Ogopogo (Cryptid)

Today’s monster is a request from Major.Mack and since it’s Thursday it’s a cryptid. Meet the Ogopogo!

Ogopogo is a name given to a phenomena occurring in Lake Okanagan in British Colombia, Canada. A lot of people believe that Ogopogo is some sort of sea serpent. Its history only reaches far back where Canada’s original inhabitants have reported seeing a big serpent like creature in the lake. The first sightings by European settlers date back to 1872 or possibly even 1860. The description of the cryptid Ogopogo varies a little from eyewitness to eyewitness but it is most commonly believed to be an enormous sea serpent 40-50 foot long or 12-15 meters. Some photographs and video footage exists that supposedly shows the sea serpent Ogopogo, but no conclusive evidence has yet to be found.

As with all the many other sea serpent legends around the world there are a lot of explanations as to what the phenomena could be. Some believe Ogopogo could be some sort of whale, perhaps even an extinct species like Basilosaurus, others believe sightings could be caused by schools of fish, logs or large sturgeons. The most unlikely theory, but perhaps most interesting is that it could be a surviving colony of plesiosaurs, just like good old Nessie.

Zergling (Video Game Monster)

Hello everyone it is Wednesday and you all know what that means right? Correct! It’s time for another video game monster! Yakoi has made a request about Zerglings from Starcraft so here we go!

Zerglings first appeared in the Blizzard game Starcraft from 1998. The game was pretty similar to Warcraft II but instead of a fantasy setting Starcraft had more of a scifi space setting. Starcraft became an enormous success and both the Warcraft and Starcraft franchises are wellknown and recognized by geeks all over the world today! The main antagonists in Starcraft are an insectoid race called Zergs and the Zerglings belong to this group. The zerglings are very fast and relative small monsters. A zergling is ideal to use a a scout because of its speed and it’s also pretty cheap! However when Zerglings are gathered in large groups they can be extremely dangerous and can kill without mercy, so if you are with Terran or Protoss you better watch out for these guys! ;)

Mosquito (Real Monster)

It is Tuesday and that means it is time for the scariest type of monsters, the ones from real life! This one is pretty annoying though, but it can also transmit dangerous diseases to you. Meet the Mosquito!

The mosquito is found almost everywhere. Everybody knows it and most people hate it. I say most people, because some jungle tribes actually catch big swarms of these and eat them because they contain a lot of energy! But meh, I’ll just hate them for now. Everybody knows how annoying mosquito bites can be. I ones slept outside in a forest in my sleeping bag with swarms of mosquitoes all over the place. It was with school, so it was not like I could just go home or anything, lol. Anyway, when I woke up I counted over 50 mosquito bites. That’s probably my worst experience with these critters.

Bonus info: Only female mosquitos suck blood.

But apart from being annoying mosquitoes can also be killers. Each year 247 million people get the disease and around 1 million die. That’s it for today guys, if you have any ideas for more monsters from reality write it in the comments!

Pinhead (Movie Monster)

Are you guys ready for another movie monster? Here we go!

Pinhead is the main antagonist in Clive Barkers Hellraiser franchise. He is one of the cenobites, a type of extradimensional beings with a fetish for human suffering. The cenobites were once humans themselves, but unfortunately they have very bad memory, so don’t expect human sympathy if you ever encounter one!

In the movie Hellraiser Pinhead is the leader of a group of cenobites who have the ability to enter our world through the Lament Configuration, some sort of antique and mysterious puzzle. In the movie a young girl named Kirsty Cotton finds this old puzzle and solves it, and if you think she is rewarded by solving the puzzle you are wrong.

“We’ll tear your soul apart” is a famous quote from the movie, and that is exactly what Pinhead and his cenobites have in mind concerning people who solve the puzzle. Kirsty however promises to deliver the soul of her uncle (Frank) who escaped his fate with the cenobites in hell by being resurrected by some drops of blood on the floor belonging to his brother, Kirsty’s father Larry… Yeah, I know, it makes perfect sense! ;)

Liopleurodon (Extinct Monster)

Today's monster is an extinct one and in my opinion of of the most awesome creatures ever. Mett the liopleurodon the king of the seas!

The liopleurodon is a huge extinct marine reptile belonging to a group called pliosaurs. The liopleurodon was named back in 1873 by Henri-Emilé Sauvage, its name means smooth-sided teeth. Sauvage had at the time only 3 teeth of the animal, but today we posses more remains of the creature and know a little bit more about it. But the liopleurodon is actually a quite controversial reptile to discuss, at least when it comes to how big these guys got.

If you’re familiar with the TV series walking with dinosaurs you may have watched an episode where one of these creatures played a significant part. The narrator stated when talking about a huge male liopleurodon that it was 25 meters long and big even for its kind. Today most paleontologists think that size is pretty exaggerated and 18 meters is probably a more realistic guess when it comes to its length.

This magnificent beast was one the biggest carnivores ever to have lived on our planet. When looking at reconstructions of the creature it looks like a bizarre mix between a crocodile and a whale. I think it's crazy thinking about what other weird creatures once swam in our oceans, and even more that a lot of them probably never will be discovered. Some of them are lost forever leaving to trace behind them.

Kappa (Folklore)

It is Friday and this means it’s time for a mythological or folkloric creature! I've been somewhat busy today and haven't managed to write about a new monster, my apologies. So here is a repost of a creature from Japanese folklore, the Kappa!

The kappa is a cool little creature from Japanese folklore. It is kind of small, usually a little smaller than a human. It is also said to look like a mix between a monkey and a frog or a turtle! Kappas are said to have a small pool of water at the top of their heads, and if you ever encounter one you should bow before him, because then he will do the same to you. When he bows he will spill the water from his head and won’t be able to harm you!

The kappa we see today has gotten kind of soft. He is more often portrayed like a cute cartoonish character instead of what he was originally. This idea of making scary creatures from folklore soft seems to happen all over the world, and that is pretty sad if you ask me.

If you guys have any request for the folklore/mythology category don't hold back!

Montauk Monster (Cryptid)

Good evening everyone! Today’s monster is a cryptid since it is Thursday. It is a request from Mr Bouchard. He suggested it a few weeks back and here it is; The Montauk Monster!

The Montauk Monster is a new cryptid creature. It was discovered lying lifeless on a beach in Montauk, New York 2008. The creature is very bizarre looking as you can see in the picture. The monster’s weird appearance and the fact that it is so hard to identify is believed to be because it has been in the ocean for an unknown amount of time before washing up on the shore. There are a lot of theories about what this guy could be. It could be a dog, a sheep, a raccoon, a sloth or even a sea turtle with a missing shell. Personally I believe that it could be some sort of canine or even raccoon.

Of course I saved the coolest theory for last! Near the area that the creature washed ashore there is an animal testing facility run by the government called Plum Island Animal Disease Center. That leads some to speculate that the Montauk Monster could be the result of a science experiment gone horribly wrong!

Bullet Bill (Video Game Monster)

It is Wednesday and that means it’s time for video game monster. Prepare yourself! Today’s monster is a request from Icequeen100, it’s from the Super Mario Franchise and it’s called Bullet Bill!

Today’s monster isn’t that frightening. It can kill you, yes, but it looks kinda cute doesn’t it? Bullet Bills are a group of bad guys that can be encountered in the Mushroom Kingdom, the same place that Super Mario calls his home. Bullet Bills are black in color and as their name perhaps suggests shaped like bullets, but not only that, they also have a mouth and eyes and some even arms! Yes it’s a most bizarre creature. They usually work for Bowser, the evil turtle dragon thing who has a habit of kidnapping Princess Peach. Bullet Bills usually team up with another baddie called Bill Blaster. That’s a black canon with a cranium logo on its side. The Bill Blasters have the ability to fire the Bullet Bills after Mario; luckily everything in Super Mario makes sense. In later Super Mario games the Bullet Bills have learned to not only fly straight but to change direction and follow you. So over the years these guys have become an even greater nuisance in the Mushroom Kingdom!

Ramree Crocodile Attacks (Real Monsters)

During the Second World War there was an incident in South East Asia called the battle of Ramree Island. For six weeks the battle of Ramree Island was fought in 1945. The allied wanted to take back the island to establish sea-supplied airbases on them. They succeeded and the Japanese soldiers fled into the Mangrove. Bruce Wright, the naturalist has said this about the incident:

"That night [of the 19 February 1945] was the most horrible that any member of the M.L. [motor launch] crews ever experienced. The scattered rifle shots in the pitch black swamp punctured by the screams of wounded men crushed in the jaws of huge reptiles, and the blurred worrying sound of spinning crocodiles made a cacophony of hell that has rarely been duplicated on earth. At dawn the vultures arrived to clean up what the crocodiles had left...Of about 1,000 Japanese soldiers that entered the swamps of Ramree, only about 20 were found alive.”

These figures are controversial but the Ramree Crocodile Attacks are still listed in the Guinness Book of Records as “The Greatest Disaster Suffered from Animals.”

Critters (Movie Monster)

A lot of you probably won’t know this but I wrote about gremlins or mogwai a long time ago. When the Gremlins movie came out it in 1984 it inspired filmmakers to make another movie about small monsters. One of these movies were published in 1986 and is called Critters!

The critters are killing machines from space. They are very small but don’t let their size fool you, they are still lethal! These little extraterrestrial monsters have fled from a space prison and have fled to Planet earth to wreck more havoc. The critters land in rural Kansas, USA and well they are up to no good. The critters start out as eggs but they soon hatch and harass people in the area. The Brown’s a local family tries to make a stand against the little brutal beasts and eventually gets help from 2 intergalactic bounty hunters. Throughout the movie there are a lot of entertaining scenes, not very well made, but they’re entertaining. If you like bad movies you need to watch this one!

Have a great day! :)
