Nessie (Cryptid)

How are you guys? Today is time for a “cryptid” creature. Meet the famous Loch Ness monster or Nessie as it’s also called!

I am sure most of are already familiar with this illusive creature, so bear with me if you already know what I’m about to tell you ;)

Nessie is a sea serpent like creature that allegedly calls Loch Ness Scotland its home. Along with Bigfoot, the Yeti and chupacabra it is one of the most famous cryptozoological creatures! The sightings of Nessie actually go as far back as the 7th century, but it was in 1933 that the legend really gained popularity when a couple from London visited the Loch. The couple claimed to have seen a strange creature and the husband stated that is was "the nearest approach to a dragon or pre-historic animal that I have ever seen in my life". One year later the most famous picture was taken of the beast called the Surgeons photo which is what you see in the illustration. Even though it is the most famous picture taken it has recently been proven fake. But just because one picture is fake doesn’t mean the tons of eyewitnesses, footage and other photographs are.

There have been hundreds of sightings of Nessie since the “boom” in 1933, so maybe this case more than just a myth? There are a lot of different theories as to what people are seeing in the Lake. Is Nessie simply a school of fish fooling the eye? Is it a big sturgeon, perhaps even a whale? Or could it even be a surviving plesiosaur?
What are your thoughts on this?

Bob-omb (Video Game Monster)

'Sup guys. How are everyone? I'm at a lan party so today's post is a repost. I hope it's okay! It's a monster from the Super Mario franchise and it's called a Bob-omb!

The Bob-omb is a recurring enemy in the Super Mario games. His first appearance was in Super Mario Brothers from 1988, which makes the bob-omb only a few years younger than the Goomba which I have already described on my blog. The Bob-omb has appeared in almost every Mario game since its debut in 1988 including Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy and many others!

The Bob-omb itself looks like a little bomb. It’s a mechanical creature which gladly sacrifices itself in true kamikaze style if there is a chance the player (Mario) will get hurt. Bob-ombs can deviate a little in appearance. Most bob-ombs are black or blue in color, but pink variations also exist. These are called Bob-omb Buddies and aren’t enemies at all but allies. Some Bob-ombs are also known to have wind-up keys on their backs!

Alright guys, that’s it for today. Let me hear if you have any suggestions for video game monsters for next Wednesday! Also, you can look forward to an awesome cryptid monster tomorrow on the Monster Madnezz blog!

Tsavo Maneaters (True Monsters)

Today is Tuesday and that means it’s time for a monster from reality! :D These guys are a couple of lions and I’m not calling the whole tsavo lion species monsters because of the actions of 2 individuals, lol. I’m not prejudice! Meet the Tsavo Maneaters!

This is an actually photograph of the 2 maneless male tsavo lions on display.

Lions as a rule are formidable predators. They possess both intelligence and strength. However today’s monster isn’t a normal lion, they’re 2 tsavo lions from Kenya. Back in 1898 a construction was launched in order to connect Kenya and Uganda through a railway system. But the process of building this railway was characterized by numerous deaths. 2 tsavo lions, the infamous tsavo maneaters discovered that the human workers on the building site were easy prey. Nobody knows how many workers were killed exactly but the leader of the Railway project John Henry Patterson once claimed there were 135 workers killed. If that’s true that’s an even scarier thought since it’s believed that only 2 lions were behind the attack.

Aragog (Movie Monster)

Alright guys it’s Monday and that means it’s time for a movie monster! I had a request by stoneycase about the Harry Potter spider so here it is, meet Aragog!

Aragog is a giant Spider in the Harry Potter universe. It belongs to the species Acromantula which is a group of giant spiders native to Southeast Asia particularly Borneo. Aragog however was owned by Rubeus Hagrid. He had a wife Mosag and a lot of children spiders, both sons and daughters. Something that is very special about this spider is his ability to talk to humans. If you’ve seen Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets you know the spider’s role. Hagrid tells Ron Weasly and Harry Potter to follow a trail of spiders into the forbidden forest in order to find the truth. They find the giant spider, but Aragog reveals that he isn’t the creature they’re looking for at soon his children are attacking the 2 young wizards!

If you guys have any requests as always feel free to write them in the comments. Have a great day! :)

Need a little extra cash?

Who doesn’t want a little extra cash especially in these hard times?
I found a website called Neobux, it’s a site that pays you for viewing advertisement. It is free to join and you aren’t required to invest a penny in order to make money!

As a free member you can:

- View 4 ads a day = $0.04/day

- You get $0.005 for every view your referrals make.

- There are 2 kinds of referrals, rented and direct.

- Rented referrals cost $0.22 a piece for 30 days.

- Direct referrals are free but they can be harder to get because as the name suggests these are people that signed up directly through your link. They also don’t have an expiring date like the rented ones so you don’t have to worry about renewing them. To get direct referrals you can ask your friends, family or the internetz to join through your link. You also need to have been a member for at least 30 days and have viewed at least 100 ads to be able to profit from direct referrals.

- You can cash out instantly when you’ve earned $2. (This amount is increased by $1 until a maximum of $10 is reached)

Getting referrals is the key if you want to earn more money with Neobux! So far the company has payed over 30 million dollars to its users and it has only been online since 2008.

So this is not a get rich fast website, but it does have the potential to earn you some money. The key is to get referrals. I haven’t referred a single person yet, so if you sign up trough my link you’d make me a happy man. If you aren’t a member already sign up, it’s free! If you DO sign up through my link, write it in the comments so I know who to be thankful to. Happy earnings guys! :)

Mammoth (Extinct Monster)

Today’s monster is a very impressive animal and the last of them died out a few thousand years ago. They existed in many different sizes and many different places on Earth. They’re called Mammoths!

The mammoths are some of the most impressive and popular of the extinct creatures. When people think of mammoths they are usually imagining a giant elephant with large curved tusks and long hair. The truth is that there were many species of mammoth, some weren’t covered with long hair and some were very small. In fact the last surviving mammoths are now believed to be of a dwarf variant and thought to have survived as recently as 1700 BC on remote islands in the Arctic Circle.

In Siberia there is a nature reserve called “Pleistocene Park.” The meaning of this reserve is to recreate the landscape and fauna of the last ice age. There have been introduced species that thrived there previously but went extinct because of humans. There are hopes of reintroducing animals such as saber-toothed cats, woolly rhinos and mammoths to this area if the cloning technology improves in the near future.

Like I said Mammoths are very popular creatures and have appeared in a lot of media like for example the British TV show Primeval.

Nisse (Folklore & Mythology)

Today I bring you one of my local folkloric creatures, known In Denmark and Norway as a Nisse and in Sweden as a Tomte!

This folkloric creature is highly associated with Christmas in our time and has become the equivalent of the Elves who help Santa. But the Nisse is an ancient creature and hasn’t always been associated with Christmas. Many years ago people talked about Forest Nisser, Church Nisser and Farm Nisser. The name Nisse is an old form of the Danish name Nis or Niels.

The Nisse itself looks like a small person, usually an old man with beard and a red hat. The Nisse usually lives in a farm and if the farmer treats it nice by giving it porridge it will make sure that good things will happen. However, if you don’t care about the Nisse it can do annoying things or in some cases even kill you! But of course the Nisse isn’t respected anymore and has walked down the same road as for example the Japanese Kappa or even vampires. They’ve become a joke, because of the media’s “softification.”

Merry Christmas!!!

El Chupacabra (Cryptozoology)

I had a request about the Chupacabra some days ago but I've actually already written about this beast. It's a long time ago though, so I'm just going to repost this one. Here's the original post:

Let’s have some info on another “cryptid” monster. For those of you who don’t know a “cryptid” is a creature that is reported to exist but the scientific proof of the creature’s existence is lacking. Chupacabra literally means goat sucker in Spanish. The monster got this name because it allegedly kills lifestock of farmers, especially goats, and drains them of blood.

The sightings are usually taking place in rural areas. The first eyewitness report originates from a sighting in Puerto Rico back in 1995, but today the sightings of this alleged creature reach as far north as Maine and as far south as Chile!

The descriptions of the creature vary to some degree. Some people claim it to be the size of a bear, others the size of a dog. Most eyewitnesses however report a row of spines running down the back of the creature. Some speculate that this could be some sort of new or undiscovered canine, an experiment gone horribly wrong or even an alien. Most experts however see the mystery of the Chupacabras as a contemporary legend. What do you guys think???

Cacodemon (Video Game Monster)

This one is an old request from a time where I didn’t write down who made requests, lol. I think I was asked to write about one of the monsters from Doom and I’ve decided to do so. I’ve chosen the Cacodemon!

The Cacodemon is an enemy in the video game Doom. It is a monster that can’t walk because it hasn’t got any legs but why bother with that when you can fly. It is round and red and has several horns attached to it. It also only has 1 eye and the Cacodemon actually reminds me a little of the beholders of Dungeons & Dragons. But that may not be a coincidence because the Cacodemon’s appearance was really taken from a D&D manual cover.

Most people remember the Cacodemon as that sprite blob in the 1993 game, but it kind of changed its appearance from game to game. I was aware of the 2004 computer game but I actually didn’t know there was a doom for the Nintendo 64!

Leech (Real Monster)

Today it is Tuesday and that means it’s time for a monster from reality, a true monster. This is a critter found most places on earth in different versions, meet the Leech!

The leech is a creepy little monster. They can live on land and in fresh, brackish or salt water. All leeches are carnivores but the different species have adapted to different feeding styles. One time I went fishing as a kid in a small lake, I turned a stone by the water just because and what I saw was pretty gross at least to me at the time. A small fish had a leech attached to its eye!

The leech I saw was probably adapted to live as a parasite, which is also what they are most known for I think. But some leeches are even predatory like the Americobdella from Chile which swallows earthworms whole! :(

Bonus info:
Leeches are hermaphrodites.
Leeches breathe through their skin.

Have you guys ever had an encounter with a leech that freaked you out? Lol. Also if you have any requests as always feel free to post them in the comments :)

Starship Troopers Arachnid (Movie Monster)

Good day to everyone! It is Monday and that means it’s time for a movie here on the Monster Madnezz Blog! This one is an alien and it’s from Starship Troopers. It is known as an Arachnid!

The Arachnids or bugs as they are also known are an insectoid race which originates from the planet of Klendathu. To be honest this monster could also be put in a new category of book monsters or even the Wednesday Video Game Monsters category. But I discovered the Arachnids when I saw the movie Starship Troopers which must’ve been like a decade ago! So bear with me, besides I haven’t read the book ^_^

In the movie the Arachnids are servants of a so called Brain Bug, which is a highly intelligent huge worm looking creature. These alien bugs are able to colonize entire planets by hurling their spores into space. And just to be clear, these critters don’t come in peace so naturally there are a lot of action scenes in the movie. If you haven’t already, you should try watching this movie.

Have a great day, and oh… any requests guys? :D

Incisivosaurus (Extinct)

I hope you are prepared for another dinosaur because today is Saturday which means it’s time for an extinct monster. This one is pretty weird and also discovered fairly recently. Meet the Incisivosaurus!

The incisivosaurus was a theropod from the early Cretaceous period. Usually theropods are carnivores but Incisivosaurus is thought to be an herbivore. It was discovered in China as recent as 2002. This dinosaur was bipedal and was covered with feathers, but the weirdest thing about this critter is its teeth! The name Incisivosaurus means incisor lizard and when you look at reconstructions of this guy you know why. The incisivosaurus looks like a bizarre mix between a bird and a rodent!

Like I said earlier it was discovered in 2002 so it hasn’t had that much attention in popular culture. In the tv show Prehistoric Park featuring Nigel Marven the incisivosaurus has an appearance though… But we need this guy in the upcoming Jurassic Park 4 too! Actually there are a lot of dinosaurs I’d like to see in a new JP movie!

Have a nice day all my readers and followers!

Kraken (Folklore & Mythology)

Hello guys it is Friday and that means it’s time for a monster from folklore or mythology. This one is a request but I’ve forgotten who requested it actually! Oops. Anyway this is the Kraken!

The Kraken is a giant Octopus with a bad attitude. It was first described in 1752/53 by the Danish bishop Erik Pontoppidan. Descriptions of creatures like the Kraken reach much further back though, at least as far back as Norse sagas.

Back in the day it was said that if fishermen knew when the Kraken was nearby. They knew if they went to fish places where the water used to be several hundred meters deep but only was 40-40 meters deep. This meant that the Kraken was there and so the fishermen quickly finished their job and went home, because even though the Kraken attracted a lot of fish it was said to be able to pull even the biggest battleship into the depths. The legend of the Kraken is said to be based on encounters with the giant squid which itself was considered a myth until the Dane Johan Steenstrup proved that giant squid existed after he was told a dead Kraken was washed up the beach in Northern Denmark.

The kraken is a very popular monster and has appeared in a lot of popular fiction. It has for example been in Clash of the Titans and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and the creature outside the Mines of Moria in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings was based off the Kraken!
