Today is time for another movie monster! This is one of one of my favorite monsters and probably also one of the scariest (although the 2 newer movies succeeded in making the creature less frightening). Dear followers, meet the alien.
This creature is the star of the 1979 science fiction horror movie ALIEN and has appeared in several sequels and 2 crossovers with the Predator franchise since. The monstrous creature was designed by the Swiss surrealist artist H. R. Giger and the movie itself was directed by Ridly Scott, who today is known for other great movies such as Gladiator.
The alien starts its life as an egg which will “hatch” a little parasitic creature called the facehugger when a possible host is near. The facehugger will then attach itself to the host’s head and deliver an embryo inside the lungs of the host. After a while this embryo (chestburster) will burst through the victims lungs and quickly grow to become the perfect killer machine. It is extremely tough and bloodthirsty and if you want to kill it, you really need to think twice about your plan, since its blood is made of pure acid! The Alien creature takes form of whatever organism was its host, so since the host in ALIEN was human the creature is very human like, but still very alien looking at the same time…
All in all it was a very disturbing movie to watch as a child, but I’ve been a fan ever since! On second thought, maybe I should hate this movie because it might be the reason why horror movies don’t really scare me today… or maybe the true reason is that movies in general just suck nowadays? who knows ;)
A genuine fright classic. Good review!
