Giant Sea Scorpion (Extinct)
Good day everyone! Today you will discover one of the biggest arthropods ever to have inhabited our planet. Today’s monster is the extinct giant sea scorpion Jaekelopterus rhenaniae.
This giant arthropod is arguably the biggest Arthropod ever except maybe for Arthropleura an enormous extinct millipede. It lived 390 million years ago and it is estimated Jaekelopterus grew to be around 2.5 meters long (8.2 feet) long, but I’ve also posted a picture to give a better picture of this sea scorpion’s size!
Jaekelopterus belongs to the group called sea scorpions but it’s actually a bit misleading name because it is believed to have lived in freshwater swamps, rivers and lakes rather than saltwater. The sea scorpions haven’t appeared in as many movies and games as they deserve. But one show that did some justice to these creatures was Sea Monsters a 3 part Walking with Dinosaurs special hosted by zoologist Nigel Marven, though as far as I can remember only a smaller species appeared in that show.
So guys, what extinct monster would you like to see next? :)

Centaur (Mythology)
Today we have another mythological creature and a well known one. It’s from Greek mythology and it’s called the Centaur.
The centaur is a very popular mythological creature and has been so for centuries. The creature has been immortalized through different art forms through history such as vase paintings and statues. Today the centaur can be encountered almost everywhere from traditional paintings to modern movies and computer games. They have appeared movies such as Harry Potter where they were portrayed as intelligent beings that live in the forest and in The Chronicles of Narnia they were usually seen as good soldiers and they’ve appeared in many more popular movies and books!
Bonus info: Female centaurs are called “Kantaurides.”
I’m thinking about posting a creature from Norse mythology next Friday, but if you have a request please feel free to write it in the comments! :)

The Dover Demon (Cryptozoology)
What’s up guys? It’s Thursday and this means it’s time for another cryptozoological creature! This one is from the USA and is called The Dover Demon!
The Dover demon was spotted in yes you’ve guessed it Dover, Massachusetts in 1977. During the years it has been an interesting subject both to cryptozoologists and ufologists, because judging from the descriptions of this creature it sounds like an extraterrestrial monster.
The first sighting was made by 3 17 year old boys who were out driving. They spotted what they at first thought was a dog, but when they drove closer the driver Bill Bartlett realized that the creature “was a bizarre, unearthly-looking creature crawling along a stone wall on Farm Street”.
There do exist some theories that could explain the Dover Demon, some more farfetched than others. Some speculate it could be a newborn moose, but other more interesting theories say it’s an alien visitor or a hybrid mutant ;)
What do you think about this case? Also what do you think about my new banner? :)

Tricky the Triceratops (Video Game Monster)
Are you guys ready for some nostalgia? You might be when you see the video game monster for today. Some of you guys might remember Tricky the Triceratops!
Tricky the Triceratops is a ceratopsian dinosaur from the 1997 Nintendo 64 game Diddy Kong Racing. Unfortunately he hasn’t to my knowledge been in any games since except the Diddy Kong Racing re-release for the DS from 2007. That is a shame because I think that he was a pretty cool character!
Tricky was the boss of an area on Timber’s Island called Dino Domain. The player needed to defeat him twice in a race in order to progress in the game. Tricky is a cheater though, he starts racing before you! But Tricky the Triceratops isn’t evil in “reality.” Because the ultimate boss in Diddy Kong Racing called Wizpig had actually brainwashed him to make him one of his servants!
I have 2 questions for you guys. Did you nostalgia??? ...and what other video game creature would you like to see on Monster Madnezz next? :)
